Movie Review by Zara
January 24th, 2007

You drink that drink!

I'm a enthusiast of MBTI, also known as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a test created on the studies of Carl G Jung. Essentially, it breaks down everyone into a 4 letter definition, and outlines certain characteristics of each personality. I myself, am an ENFP. My personality type excels at being able to read people, and enjoys understanding the hows and whys of how they operate. It's part of the reason why I like the test so much. Watching RODGER DODGER, I instantly knew that the main character, portrayed by Campbell Scott, was an ENTJ. Rodger is c*cky, extremely verbal, and the gold medal winner of know-it-alls. He is enigmatic, and enthralls people with his outspoken opinions. Scott easily pushes Rodger into one of the most memorable movie characters ever.

Rodger works for an ad company, and has been having an affair with his older female boss, played to icy perfection by Isabella Rossellini. When she decides to break off their affair, Rodger has difficulty coping with losing her, but more importantly, her rebuff is an indicator that he lost in general. When his 16 year old nephew shows up in his office asking for help with women, Rodger unleashes his frustrations with the opposite gender through an evening of schooling this young man. In the end, it is safe to say that Rodger learns a lesson, but the brilliant part is that you know it in no way changes him as a person.

The movie is heavy on the dialogue and is intensely character driven, which is a huge plus. The entire beginning of the movie feels like porno for the intellectual mind, and the observations that Rodger makes throughout the flick are at once instantly quotable and opinion altering, should you not have considered his very focused point of view. I personally, have always been more of a fan of good characters than an action driven plot, and RODGER DODGER delivers this in spades. It is quite easily one of the best movies that I didn't know existed until I rented it at the video store this weekend.
