Thrilling Greatness
The amazing David Fincher delivers a fascinating portrayal of paranoia, motherhood and violence in this tense thriller.
Jodie Foster plays a mother who moves into a sweet new brownstone with her daughter when their house is broken into on the first night. Forest Whitaker, Dwight Yoakam and Jared Leto play the robbers with their own skewed agendas and interesting relationships.
The things that Fincher can do with a camera (and admittedly a lot of CG) are in a different ballpark from everyone else. He builds the terror more and more with every minute and gets you totally invoved with his characters.
Foster is strong and smart, the kind of woman she excells at playing and much of the film rests on her very capable shoulders.
This is a nail-biter and though it is just a step away from perfect, it is totally worth a dark night alone with your DVD player.
