Movie Review by Joe May 14th, 2006

Tackling his first attempt at directing a major motion picture, Ed Decter ("Boy Meets World" co-executive producer) brings a hilarious coming-of-age movie, which, although it includes several plot holes, still is very funny to watch, and it brings home a message in the end.
The movie revolves around a nerdy senior named Dizzy Harrison (DJ Qualls - "Hustle & Flow," "The Core") and his nerdy friends Nora (Zooey Deschanel - "Elf," "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"), Kirk (Jerod Mixon - "Old School," "The Cookout"), and Glen (Parry Shen - "First Daughter"). In his old school, Dizzy experiences embarrassment after embarrassment (including having his penis broke by the school librarian...yea, like I said earlier, there is some major holes).
He disrupts a gospel choir singing at the mall (with Gene Simmons as the Reverend?)...and ends up in jail (must be a very strict city he's living in). It is in jail he meets Luther (Eddie Griffin - "Double Take," "Deuce Biggalow"), and Luther instructs him on the ways of being cool in school.
Dizzy does all he can to get expelled from his old school and eventually does, then he goes back to prison to visit Luther (many, many things that don't make sense in this movie), and he gets a total makeover while in prison, thanks to Luther and his friends.
Dizzy, now known as Gil Harris, arrives at his new school in a momumental fashion, thanks to the police from the prison. There he quickly earns a name for himself as the bad-boy of the school, and seeks the affection of head cheerleader Danielle (Eliza Dushku - "Wrong Turn," "Bring It On"), but she already has a boyfriend named Connor (Ross Patterson - "American Pie"). He finally earns her admiration when he brings the school together for a football game, since football games were hardly attended by anyone previously.
After a VERY nice montage of Danielle trying on bathing suits...quite possibly the BEST scene ever in any movie ever made...we start to include morals in this movie. Gil runs into his old friends at the mall and he ignores them, because they're not cool. Soon Gil realizes that he is becoming that which he never wanted to - a real bad-boy.
He starts to defend the nerds at his new school, and surprisingly brings unity to the whole school. He incorporates his old friends into his new life, and things tend to be going well. Danielle is now his, and everyone loves Gil.
Of course, it isn't that easy. An unfortunate string of events occur, and Gil must face who he really is, and how the past can sometimes come back to haunt us.
Overall, a pretty good movie to see. I highly recommend it.
Luther: High school is a lot like prison: Bad food, high fences; the sex you want, you ain't gettin', the sex you gettin', you don't want. I've seen terrible things.
Dizzy: Yesterday, an eighty-year-old librarian broke my penis.
Luther: You win.
