103 Minutes You Will Never Get Back

Favorite Movie Quote: "f*cking marooned."

It seems promising enough. Casey Affleck and Matt Damon have both earned my respect through various films. And while Good Will Hunting was a tad bit overrated, it was still a great film. Apparently Ben Affleck deserves more credit than I've been giving him for that script and his brother is not a valid substitute in the writing department. I would guess that the screenplay for Gerry consisted of five pages of dialogue would the words INSERT SCENERY SHOT thrown in as many times as the name Gerry. Van Sant should have focused less on cinematography and instead provided a story worth telling. Instead of the beautiful shots that worked within My Own Private Idaho, Van Sant strives too hard to be indie artistic in this piece.

This film is frustratingly pointless and I could have probably accepted the lack of story if it succeeded in becoming a character study. Instead there are two guys named Gerry wandering around a desert with little to nothing to say to one another.
