I Was Actually Good

Usually I get bored or uninterested in spy movies. All the James Bond movies sort of interested me but besides that I have never really seen a good spy movie. The Bourne Identity is a film directed by Doug Liman, who dropped out of the series in Supremacy. Identity sort of gets you started with character and plot and stuff like that. With Limans interesting directorial style along with an addictive plot and great acting and action, its a good movie. The film did slow down a little bit though in the middle but I got over it towards the end. All of the performances are solid and theres a great script by Tony Gilroy.

The film follows Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). After he is found floating in the ocean riddled by bullets by a ship, he wakes up with 3 bullet scars in his back and chest, but with no memory of anything about who he is. The ship drops him off and he begins a journey to find out who he really is.

Doug Liman really has a pretty interesting style behind the camera. Usually in these types of movies we get a hand held camera system which usually gets annoying after a while. Doug keeps the camera nice and smooth through the film. He gets the dialogue scenes shot nicely and gets some really cool styles and angles during the fights and some action moments.

The script is very good by Tony Gilroy. I believe he did a good job with keeping Bournes character a mystery, never revealing too much at one time.

Matt Damon is not my favorite actor though, but I seriously believe this may be one of his best roles. He gets deeply into character and unleashes a performance in which I never thought he could pull off.

Through all the good things in the film, there are its flaws. The film is slow, you must be awake and have patience to fully sit through every minute of the movie. There were also a few moments in the action especially towards the end in which were very unbelievable.

Bottom Line: This is an excellent film, compelling and a mystery to me.
