A Plot Twist of A Film

The Bourne Identity is a spy thriller based on the Robert Ludlum series, the first book being the same name of the first film. Director Doug Liman lights up the screen with his amazing directorial style and his engaging and pulsing fight scenes and chases. The suspense in this film is really amazing and the characters are believable. Being the first movie in a 3 part trilogy, its certainly not the best in the trilogy. The 2nd and 3rd movie are surprisingly better then the 1st.

The Bourne Identity follows Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). In the beginning of the movie, a ship captain and his crew find his body floating in the ocean with a blinking light on top of his body. The captain picks him up and finds 3 bullet holes in his back. After fixing him up, he awakes, yelling. The captain tells him of the situation and lets Jason stay with them until they drop him off on shore. When they drop him off, Jason goes on a dangerous adventure, being hunted by mysterious men who are trying to kill him, he tries to find out who he is.

Before this film, I never really enjoyed Matt Damons work. I mean, he did do realy good in Martin Scorseses The Departed, but besides that, to me, hes not really a good actor. After watching The Bourne Identity, I have found anew respect for him. His character is a mysterious character, mainly becase he wakes up and for months and months, tries to find our who he is while being hunted and attempted to be killed. Matt takes the character by the collar and nails about every aspect of it in the perfect way.

Franka Potente plays as Marie, a girl Jason meets while being chased by cops. As the story goes, they hookup and become entangled together in love and try to help eachother survive. She does a great job with her character, making her ultra believable.

I cant really say that this film is action packed, because its not. Its more on the lines of suspenseful and truly adrenaline pumping. Because the script does such a good job with the characters, the suspense in the movie is really huge. There are situations and conversations in the movie which reveal more and more about characters and then that gets you thinking about future events in the film.

The action in the movie is truly uprising and great. The fight scenes were shot greatly by Doug Liman, fast and just really cool to watch. In usual action moovie style, there is a car chase sequence. That was shot nicely. Besides that, the fights and everything were nice and for the shooting part, we get a few shootouts that were great. This film is not big for action junkies, mainly for suspense fans and fans of truly great action films.

Bottom Line: A Must See
