Sticking Pens In Bonds Arms

For too long the Bond franchise held an unsteady and questionable monopoly on the government agent angle. It was stating to grow old with as much grace as a rampaging Hippo and was getting increasingly ridiculous. From a British point of view the opener of the Bourne series almost slipped under the radar, maybe we were too interested in the imminent DIE ANOTHER DAY, oh how the makers of IDENTITY must have laughed. I felt this was a much needed breath of minty fresh air. A story that was just the right amount of intriguing, not too complicated but vague enough not to bore. Action that is basic, fun and exhilarating. The best Mini car chase since the Italian job and a cast that is complete enough to overshadow the presence of Julia Stiles, who hardly says anything, fourtunately.

Matt Damon sits quite comfortably in the role of a super weapon that has no clue, that is not a dig, I actually quite like the Damon. Franka Potente was more than welcome back on my small screen, looking all Eastern European with an accent that surprised and beguiled me. You even get a much craggiless appearance from Clive Owen.

Bottom line is, this film excels at what Bond has been trying to do for the preceding twenty years. A great action thriller that should not discriminate the viewer. Good for the males out there who want to feel blokey, good for the women because it is not all gadgets and guns. Good for everyone I say.
