Movie Review by Lisa
March 20th, 2007

Hugh's a wanker ...but it works him in this.

I was extremely excited too see this movie when it came out, to the shock of my friends who are well aware of my opinion of Hugh "The Ponsey tw*t" Grant......so what was it that made me want to see this movie. Well I'll tell you, although I love Toni Collette and I was intrigued by newcomer Nicholas Holt (especially his Dr. Spock eyebrows), it was in fact the soundtrack that made me watch. For those of you not familiar the Soundtrack was done entirely by a great artist called "Badly Drawn Boy" who is pretty big in the UK (I'm a fan).

This was a great Nick Hornby novel and the adaptation did not disappoint (surprisingly), just as Jack Black was perfect for the role of Barry in "High Fidelity", Hugh Grant (although it pains me to say) was perfect for the role of Will, and Nicholas Holt was a great accompaniment as Marcus Brewer, as for Toni Collette she can do no wrong in my eyes and delivers the role of Marcus's mum the new age manic depressive hippy perfectly.

I laughed, my lip quivered and I was thoroughly entertained by this movie.......Oh did I mention the soundtrack is outstanding.

Hugh Grant has never been a big favorite of mine, but I adored him in this movie. The scene where Marcus gets his shoes stolen always makes me cry. f*cking kids.

Will wonders never cease. The soundtracks are great in all of Hugh's movies - they are the second best parts of the movie.

thought you might like this one Ben.....not sure about the soundtracks in his other movies though, did you forget about 4 weddings and a funeral, and the hideous rendition of "love is all around us" by Wet wet wet. ;)

Like it? I just ordered it. Noticed it was the Steal of the day. I know if you liked it, it must be one of his best.

I really loved this movie. It's Hugh Grant's best performance by far! If you're ever able to get your hands on the shooting script you should read it. It's even funnier. Some of the stuff they cut out should have been left in!
