Hugh Grant has always been one of my favorite actors, with many titles from his filmography ranking among my favorites. But if you want to see him in his best performance, look no further than "About a Boy." Will (Hugh Grant) is a cynical young playboy with a real commitment problem. At thirty-eight years of age, he's never been in a relationship for more than two months. Marcus (Nicholas Hoult) is a miserable, twelve-year-old loner who doesn't fit in anywhere. Making matters worse is his mother Fiona (Toni Collette), a suicidal lunatic with only good intentions toward her son. After Will is set up on a date with a friend of Fiona's, Marcus has to tag along with them, and thus begins a highly unusual friendship between the two of them. "About a Boy" is based on a book by Nick Hornby, and it's no wonder the film is so good considering he also wrote "High Fidelity." What's even more surprising is that it was co-written and directed by Paul and Chris Weitz, best known for their work on the "American Pie" series. Filled with laughter and charm, "About a Boy" is one of the most amazing films I've ever seen.
