Movie Review by Andrew
September 17th, 2007

Think Tautou can only be sweet? Think again?

Amelie introduced the talent of Audrey Tautou to a world-wide audience, but her depth and skill as an actress is really explored in her earlier work. Colambini's finished work is an intense and dramatic look at love, obsession and perspective.

That's right... perspective.

The film is essentially the same story told twice. We are first introduced to the life of Angelique (Tautou) through her own experiences. Then, in a truly bizarre twist, the film reverts back to the beginning, only this time we see things from everyone else's point of view... only to see things aren't as great and glamorous as Angelique thinks they are.

This bold move ot only turns this film's narrative on it's head, it make the viewer question the skewed nature of storytelling in general. The two versions of this story are so fundamentally different, yet consist of the exact same events. The movie shifts from a seemingly upbeat love story to dark tale of obsession in a matter of moments, and through it all Tautou maintain an nearly flawless sense of naiveté.

Fans of Tautou, and anyone looking for a unique perspective on the seemingly ordinary will enjoy this film for sure.
