Movie Review by Tim
October 5th, 2008

Scripted but real life.

Favorite Movie Quote: "My son is dying, and I'm broke. If I don't qualify for Medicare, WHO THE HELL DOES?"

John Q is one of those films that really makes you understand how f*cked up America's healthcare system is. As a father that's not rich you never know what type of medical / financial problems you will run into for yourself or your children.

You have John Q who is this great all American dad that loves his son more then anything and then gets screwed by legalities and his son is facing death because of it. After doing everything he can to raise money for a needed heart transplant he fails to achieve the needed amount and decides that he needs to take matters into his own hands which involves taking a hospital hostage.

Should you hate him for being a criminal? Its hard too. How can you hate a man for trying to protect his child from death? Yes its wrong to take innocent people hostage and to break the law but do you think that you could sit back and give up knowing that your son was going to die if you didn't do something?

The film has some great characters and great actors playing them. Denzel is very limited in his acting ability....yep I said it...because his characters are almost always the same...however I think that he portrays those characters better then any other actor in Hollywood. Anne Heche plays a great b*tch...I mean you as the audience will hate her. I never like James Woods in anything I don't really know why he just aggravates me.

So going into this film just know that its a great film but you will experience a lot of emotions because this is something that happens to people in real life on a daily basis.
