Ah, the braindead humor of Ben Stiller's comedy troup is back once again. I remember when this movie first came out back in 2001 and I was like, what the heck is this crap? But once I went to see it I was dying laughing.
The premise is so ingenius it borders on the revolutionary (ok, maybe I'm being a bit overdramatic here). Original supermodel Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) is falling from grace, and his mind is going along for the ride. He accepts a VH1 award for best male model, even though his arch-nemesis, Hansel (Owen Wilson) actually won it!
Anyway, the whole point of this movie centers around evil designer Mugatu (Will Ferrell) who wants to assassinate the Malysian Prime Minister because he wants to get rid of child labor. Teamed up with his powerful and aggressive ally Katinka (Milla Jovovich), Mugatu goes to Ball's Agency, run by Maury Ballstein (Jerry Stiller) to inform him of their plan to take Zoolander and brainwash him to assassinate the Malysian Prime Minister.
Rogue reporter Matilda Jeffries (Christine Taylor) catches wind of this plot and tries to warn Zoolander, but Zoolander is so stupid he doesn't realize what's happening until after he's been kidnapped and brainwashed ("Obey my dog!"). Zoolander finally 'sees the light,' after an encounter with his father Larry (Jon Voight) and together he and Matilda try to stop the assassination from taking place.
He recieves help from suspicious 'hand model' J.P. Prewitt (David Duchovny) and joins forces with his old nemesis Hansel to stop Mugatu's evil plan before it's too late.
This is the type of movie one would see to relax from the busy hustle and bustle of the day and they don't want to think anymore, just laugh at mindless humor. In this respect, Zoolander delivers nonstop.
There are also several superstars, designers and models who appear as themselves throughout the movie: Donald Trump, Christian Slater, Cuba Gooding Jr., Tommy Hilfiger, Natalie Portman, Fabio, Lenny Kravitz, Gwen Stefani, Heidi Klum, Paris Hilton, David Bowie, Tyson Beckford, Fred Durst, Lance Bass, Lil Kim, Garry Shandling, Claudia Schiffer, Veronica Webb and Lukas Haas all make appearances in this movie.
