Swordfish is a modren day techno action thriller starring Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and John Travolta. Combining computer intelligence with humor, action and a little sex in the middle, this is quite a fun movie. With solid performances by the three leading actors and actresses, nicely done action scenes and a sexy as hell thrill ride of a film, this movie was just plain cool. John Travolta's character is code named Swordfish, so when he hires an ex computer hacker to find a worm in his system for 10 million dollars, thing start to go wrong as police and FBI enter the situation.
John Travolta is certainly an amazing actor. Playing roles in films like Face/Off and The Punisher, he has a fine career in film. In Swordfish, his character is just awesome and fun. He can be so serious in chosen moments then just bust out laughing from one of his own little jokes. So he kind of becomes the best actor in the movie and fits the character right. Hugh Jackman does a good job, just not as good as he normally does. I think he tried, but not hard enough, so it seems like he just passed this one by for the time and money. Halle Berry is way too sexy for this movie, but that makes the movie good. We see plenty from her in this movie so it all equals out pretty nicely here.
Now the movie does a really good job when it comes to mixing action with more of a techno thriller of a movie. The action scenes were all shot very nicely and the action is truly there and in your face. The scene in the beginning with the explosion is absoulutely amazing and is the best scene of the movie, period. Now we do get a cool bank robbery scene which takes up a large period of the film. Now the movie never gets excessively violent, but the violence is here with all the gunshots and everything.
Now I must say that the movie does a fantastic job with suspense. There are major moments where I was literally on the edge of my seat with my mind racing to the extreme point. This really got my adrenaline pumping, really pumping. We also get sort of a character level with the character of Stanley. As his ex wife is a porn star who is currently holding by a judge, his daughter. This causes some family problems within the character. This film is directed by Dominic Sena, the man behind Gone in 60 Seconds. I must say this is truly better the Gone and I feel better now that I see what he can really do.
In the end, Swordfish is a solid 4 star film.
