Ah, amazing what people are considering as 'psychological thrillers' nowadays.
I was rummaging through my local Wal-Mart $5.50 bin and first thing I saw was The Family Man with Nicholas Cage. I thought this was too good a deal to pass up, it is a great movie!
But unfortunately this review isn't about The Family Man. It's about the other movie I saw in the bin. Soul Surviviors. Now this came out in 2001, yet I don't seem to remember it at all (and the fact that it only made 3,111,545 shows me why I don't remember it). I remember looking at it at Best Buy a couple times, thinking who would spend $20.00 on this movie, but since it was only $5.50 here, I figured, what the heck, my curiosity is peaked.
Now I wish I could get my $5.50 back.
This movie is pegged as 'a Romeo and Juliet type of movie.' I'm sure William Shakespeare is spinning in his grave. Why must they try to 'improve' on the classics?
The movie centers around young college-bound girl Cassie (Melissa Sagemiller) as she prepares to step out and face that cruel world of college. But at least she has her friends! Her boyfriend Sean (Casey Affleck - Ben Affleck's brother, who, by the way, now states that he's ashamed he did this movie), her former boyfriend Matt (Wes Bentley) and her best friend/Matt's new girlfriend Annabel (Eliza Dushku). Alright, the main reason I got this movie was because Eliza Dushku was in it, and on the cover she looks like she's the lead, but unfortunately we hardly see her.
So anyway they go to this underground club and while they're there Matt decides that he's still not over Cassie so they have a 'good-bye kiss' that of course is more than just a peck on the cheek, and of course is viewed by Sean.
So on the way home in the rain Cassie tries to apologize over and over as she's driving, and what happens? They get home safely and everyone lives happily ever after.
Oh I wish.
She hits a car and both go over the edge, ends up in the hosital, Sean dies, she's tormented by people from the club for some reason, she thinks she sees Sean everywhere, her friends start acting strange, and Luke Wilson is a priest.
Then the twists happen. Leaving plot holes so huge if someone drove over them they would loose a tire.
And then it was done.
Cassie: I'M NOT CRAZY!
