Movie Review by Luz
July 8th, 2007

This is absolutely my favorite kids' movie ever. It's not sweet and sappy like most of them tend to be... instead, it's rough around the edges and full of personality! It's daring and brilliant. Sure, the humor's a little crude at times, but it's nothing most kids haven't heard before and really the worst word is "ass" but they never use it exclusively in the obscene way... it's hilarious! I remember laughing my DONKEY off in the theater, with my innocent daughters giggling away beside me, and I never once thought it was inappropriate for them in any way.

The best line in the whole film is at the end when Shrek tells Fiona she IS beautiful. ahhh... that just ties up the whole bundle of positive messages in the film. That beauty is on the inside. That women don't have to depend on men, or get married just to "be happy." That big oafy men CAN have personality and charm. That farting and burping are natural bodily functions. All messages I'd never seen in a kid's movie before, and I love that they were there in Shrek.

Add to that a fabulous soundtrack--which exposed kids all over the nation to amazing music from a different era--and terrific animation, including really beautiful backgrounds and scenery, and there's really not much more you could ask for in a modern-day, quality childrens' film.

Bottom Line: Lots of laughter and love... just make sure your sense of humor's in tact when you watch it.
