Movie Review by B Movie Ben
May 8th, 2007

They'd soak the nut-jobs in ice water.

I felt that this film really took a long time to develop into a horror film.

It seemed like all anyone was doing was talking and arguing with each other. I don't know what that had to do with the horror.

A lot of the first part of the movie also took place in an atmosphere that was too bloody dark to know what was going on.

But, it seemed, after Phil (David Caruso) was smoking a doobie that things picked up. I know that doesn't have anything to do with the plot, but I wonder how his fellow workers on CSI: Miami would react. :-) Things starting getting creepy and terrible towards the end of the movie. No cute coeds, no breasts, no bloody decapitations, just tight tension as Gordon (Peter Mullan) does the bidding of the residents.

The film also features Josh Lucas (American Psycho, Glory Road), and CSI's Paul Guilfoyle.

You should look up info on the production of this film. It's really interesting. The building actually was an asylum, and Brad Anderson wrote the screenplay around the building, because he used to see it all the time growing up.

This movie f*cked my sh*t up good. I am a big fan of quiet, creepy movies, and this was both in spades. The end left me mopey for a week.

PS: Have you seen The Machinist?

I just checked and it is on The Movie Chanell in two weeks. I guess I'll have to pony up $13 to subscribe.

Damn, dude. You gotta get you some Netflix. The Machinist is crepier still, if that is possible. Plus, you get to see Jennifer Jason Leigh's jahoobies :)

I have about three dozen DVDs to watch. I find it more convienient on the tube, and I still get to see Jennerifer if I stick to cable. Now, that you added that bit of info, I will call the cable company tomorrow.
