Movie Review by Jen
April 7th, 2006

The Royal Tenenbaums is listed as my all time favorite film in my profile, and I doubt that there is anything out there that could change that. Wes Anderson works beautifully with Owen Wilson to create a tangible story of coming of age and family dynamic. Through a series of lies and passive agressive conversations, the ecclectic characters of this film come together and finally end their cycle of arrested development, facing the harsh realities of the world outside.

As a film student, I could go into the painstaking detail Anderson obviously put into this film. Each scene is beautifully put together with brilliant and intelligent use of color and objects to create a very absorbing mood. It is shot perfectly, each angle thoughtfully made a part of creating such an intricate plot and character structure that, after many many viewings of this film, I still have the ability to find something different in it every time.

Funny, bittersweet, and at times life affirming in its own fantastic way, The Royal Tenenbaums is one of those films that everyone should see at some point in their life. (And pick up the soundtrack too- it's no suprise that it is beautifully put together as well!)
