Movie Review by Chris
August 28th, 2007

Dr. Alan Grant is now a happy man with the previous incidents of Jurassic Park now behind him. Grant is that happy that he announce in public, that nothing on Earth can persuade him back onto the islands. Maybe nothing, except Paul Kirby. Kirby and his wife, Amanda want a plane to fly them over Isla Sorna, with Dr. Grant as their guide. But not everything Kirby says is true. When the plane lands, Dr. Grant realizes that there is another reason why they are there, that he doesn't know of. Now, Dr. Grant is stuck on an island he has never been on before, with what was a plane journey now turned into a search party.

Jurassic Park III is the latest installment in the well known franchise. From Steven Spielberg to Joe Johnston, this film borrows a lot of little things from the two original films and brings barely anything new to the franchise. Though the story is a little bit different and ranges in character from the previous installments, the introduction of new dinosaurs and a few characters and island arent really enough to make to much of a gap between the films. In the beginning of the movie, we get introduced to Erik Kirby, played by Trevor Morgan. He is on a parasailing trip with a close friend to the family. They are only about 100 yards from Isla Sorna, and they can get a great visual of the island. When the boat travels through a field of smoke though, the boat appears bloody and battered and Erik is forced to unleash from the rope and float to the island. Now we finally see both Dr. Alan Grant, played by Sam Neil, and the appearence of Ellie Satler played by Laura Dern.

Out of all the characters we got introduced to through the first Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg, Alan Grant was my favorite of all the characters. As Ellie is always asking him about kids and everything, he is kind of to himself and has a very bleak sense of humor. He takes his work very seriously and almost literally slaves over all this paleontology. So when Paul Kirby, played by William H. Macy approaches him asking him about a proposement to go to dinner with him and his wife, him and his friend Billy agree to go. Billy Brennan is a younger version of Alan Grant, personally I mean. He also slaves over all of his work and everything and really looks to Grant for information pertaining his field of work.

Now we see Paul Kirby again but along with him is his wife Amanda, played by Tea Leoni. I honestly cant stand both of these characters because theyre extremely annoying and are the dumbest characters in the entire movie. Later on when we finally find out that they are divorced and that theyre looking for their son, I just couldnt really stand either of the characters. Paul talks very fast, though kind, his voice and the way he portrays this character is very annoying and he gets me angry at times. While his wife Amanda does care about their son Erik, she is also sort of a compulsive liar and really makes some stupid decisions through this movie. For example, the plain is being attacked by the spinosaurous, and she jumps out and runs away. Its characters like these which could really quickly and easily destroy the entire movie in a whole.

Stan Winston is the man behind all the dinosaurs yet again, and now that he has passed into the next life, its still great to watch a movie he was involved in because he put his entire life into the work of the movie. He was the creator of all the puppets and effects which we saw in the first two movies and its great to see that he majorly contributed to the third film. Well we do get an introduction to 2 new dinosaurs, the spinosaraus and a flying one which I forget the name of, sorry. The spinosauraus has become the T-Rex of the third movie, since the T-Rex was majorly known in the first few films. It has an alligator inspired beak mouth and has a 7 foot spine on his back, and boy is this guy big. Well since the advancement in technology from The Lost World, Jurassic Park III uses more computer effects then it does puppets, but the effects look fantastic. All the dinosaurs have the same little setup as the originals and the effects never take it to far.

Jurassic Park III is nothing new, which is the reason for this rating, but it still is exciting and is a good addition to the franchise.
