Movie Review by Veronica

Fun to watch but not true horror

I enjoyed this movie, it was fun to watch, but I wouldn't by any means categorize it as a true horror flick. I was shocked when I found out this movie was made in 2001. The effects were awful, and the story seemed uncompleted.

First off the 2 spend almost half the movie bantering to each other in a car and making the world's stupidest decisions. The audience spends the entire movie screaming, "really stupid?"...gotta love a movie like that. As I also said it's not a true horror movie. The "creature" was truly frightening and could have made for a great series of horror movies. The special effects were unbearable however. Early in the movie the boy discovers an abandoned church basement covered with preserved corpses. The corpses were manequennis as they always are but instead of being convincing latex covered and human like, they looked like cheap 70s or 80s era department store clothing manequinns.

It seems that every time the audience is about to concede to fear something so comical and unconvincing happens that they have to resist the urge to laugh. At one point the creature rips the heart of a police officer out and leaves a gaping hole through him....it's not bloody or eerie, just funny.

All in all the movie was fun to watch and there were definitely jumpy moments but the movie wouldn't have been scary to a 5 year old much less the adult audience it was intended for.

The movie is basically about a brother and sister driving home from school who en route encounter a terrible creature. They see something unsettling and against the audiences urges investigate anyways. What they find is their worst nightmare. They go endure a series of unlogical decisions whilst trying to outrun this nightmarish creature. and

Ultimately one of them reaches their demise. Might I add...in an almost comical way.
