is that...is that Juliette Lewis
Ok so I have to admit that the reason I just had to track down a copy of this film was due mainly to the fact that John Cameron Mitchell looks just like Juliette Lewis when he's all dragged up, that and a movie about a German transsexual just sounded like good family fun ;)
Much like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Hedwig started out as a flamboyant off Broadway rock musical, and although it has grabbed the cult status that RHPS did, it is well worth watching.
John Cam Mitchell plays Hansel an East German Nancy boy becomes the victim of a botched sex change op, which he had in order to marry his new for love a U.S. soldier. and escape East Germany. 1 year later Hansel now Hedwig is left alone in Kansas, her hubby ran off with another man and her f*cked up operation has left her with a 1 inch mound of flesh and a scar where her vagina should have been. But all is not lost for Hedwig she forms a rock band called the Angry Inch and gets close to a young church boy called Johnny (Michael Pitt) who she writes songs with... things do go t*ts up for poor ole Hedwig but I've said to much already.
This is a weird and wonderful film and well worth watching just for John Cam Mitchell he rocks as a lady boy... go on then flix it.
