Movie Review by Zara
January 29th, 2007

I still don't get the appeal

When the predecessor to this movie was out, I remember people talking in hushed tones about how incredible it was (I'm referring to SILENCE OF THE LAMBS). I checked it oout to see if the fuss was warranted only to find out that I just wasn't as moved by the story of Hannibal Lector and Clarice Starling. I was even more floored when that movie went on to win the top five honors at the Oscars that year (actor, actress, screenplay, director and film) something that's only been done one other time and by a much more worthy film (Care to guess what that was?)

In this edition, it picks up with a new Clarice played by Julianne Moore with far less annoying mannerisms than Jodie Foster had. Hannibal has escaped and been on the run for quite some time in Europe. As a detective there begins to close in on who he is, the good doctor swiftly takes him off the case in a brutal fashion.

What I remember most about this movie was the scene at the end with Liotta's character. If that doesn't haunt you then you have no soul. But as far as the series with Sir Anthony Hopkins goes, I'd gladly pass on it for more showing of MANHUNTER, starring Brian Cox as the formidable doctor. It's far more creepy in a fashion that isn't all about grossing people out.
