ABOUT 'THE RIPPER' MY LIPS ARE ZIPPERED I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!! I can not believe that no one else has reviewed this flick before. With all the apparent Horror-Movie-Fans that there are here on Matchflick it strikes me as tres' bizarre, indeed, that FROM HELL got missed, somehow. I mean, 'Hello, Everyone!'.... FROM HELL's about JACK THE RIPPER(!!!!), you know. That's right, JACK THE FRIGGIN' R-R-R-RIPPER!!!!. Like, hey, all you gore-lusters, and ghostbusters, Doesn't that mean anything!? JACK's the Grand-Daddy of all serial-killers. JACK was such a brutal gut-slasher and throat-gasher that he makes Freddie Krueger, and all those other make-believe copy-cats, look like Twinkies and total amateurs by comparison. He does. JACK was the real McCoy. JACK was the all-time MANIAC. FROM HELL is set in the year 1888. It takes place in the Whitechapel District of London where THE RIPPER murders were committed and had everybody gripped in an absolute fit of terror. What makes FROM HELL worth a view is that about 25 years ago, after some painstaking research was done on the subject of THE RIPPER, some new and truly amazing evidence appeared in the case. It points very clearly to uncovering the true identity of JACK. It also explains why JACK was savagely slaughtering prostitutes. And, the biggest mystery of them all, it hints at what might have become of JACK after the killings had stopped. These 3 pieces of 'newly' uncovered evidence are incorporated quite cleverly into FROM HELL's story-line. I like these FACT-MIXED-WITH-FICTION flicks. I promise that I am not going to be a heartless beast and give anything away about this new RIPPER evidence. But I will tell you this....JACK THE RIPPER was a 'hit-man'. Now, who he was working for and why he committed these gruesome murders, well, that's for you to find out. And, believe me, when you find out you'll be absolutely amazed and shocked, too. You will. For anyone who might be concerned, FROM HELL does not skimp one iota on the gory graphics, or the brutal reality of THE RIPPER murders. In fact, it's just what the Doctor-of-Horror ordered. I'll openly admit that some of the images in FROM HELL were so intense that they, literally, gave me some pretty disturbing nightmares. REQUIEM FOR A DREAM did the same thing to me. So did 28 DAYS LATER. Actors JOHNNY DEPP and ROBBIE COLTRANE were, at best, adequate in their roles as detectives working on THE RIPPER CASE, but definitely their presence in this flick was nothing to rave about. email this review to a friend
