Howard Ain't No Capra

Oh what a frustrating movie.

When you make a biopic, in my opinion, you have signed on to make a story about a person and you must stay true to the facts of who that person really is, warts and all. Yet here Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman work to glorify and gloss over the life of John Nash.

This man was a genius, but he was also abusive, mean and deeply flawed and he treated his wife horribly. Howard, in his lame attempt to be Capra, chooses to force the world to remember a man that never existed. In the film, Nash is misunderstood and mostly kind fo his wife, they never attempt to look at his dark side.

There are some great moments in this film, mostly due to Paul Bettany, however it all comes out too cheery and happy when the reality was nowhere near that.

Yeah a lot of bad movies have won best picture, just because something is popular and makes people cry does not mean it is good. Directors of biopics have a responsibility. You are welcome to think my reviews are senseless, I simply suggest you work on your grammar. The personal message you sent me was full of rude comments as well as bad spelling and grammar.

Im actually surprised at this one Jessica....I really liked this film and I can see your point about who the character really was in real life but I knew nothing about him and still enjoyed the film.......

I didn't like the film overall, it had its moments, but why make a film supposedly about a person when they were truly deeply flawed and not cover that. Why can't we see all aspects of who he was? Instead Howard decides that we would not be able to handle the truth about Nash as a pedophile and an abuser.

Actually I am an English major in fourth year university and I do not sit around watching movies all day long, but I have an opinion just as valid as yours.

From a purely cinematic perspective, I thought this was a good film. As to Nash's true character, I am uninformed, and I'll certainly do some research based on your review. However, your opinion of Howard and the movie in general is just as valid as anybody else's, and I thank you for sharing it.

Thanks. My problem is based on the fact that Hollywood loves to gloss over the facts about someone to make it more 'approachable' or safe and frankly I was bored by the ending.
