A Beautiful Mind (2001)

Howard Ain't No Capra
Oh what a frustrating movie.
When you make a biopic, in my opinion, you have signed on to make a story about a person and you must stay true to the facts of who that person really is, warts and all. Yet here Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman work to glorify and gloss over the life of John Nash.
This man was a genius, but he was also abusive, mean and deeply flawed and he treated his wife horribly. Howard, in his lame attempt to be Capra, chooses to force the world to remember a man that never existed. In the film, Nash is misunderstood and mostly kind fo his wife, they never attempt to look at his dark side.
There are some great moments in this film, mostly due to Paul Bettany, however it all comes out too cheery and happy when the reality was nowhere near that.

| From a purely cinematic perspective, I thought this was a good film. As to Nash's true character, I am uninformed, and I'll certainly do some research based on your review. However, your opinion of Howard and the movie in general is just as valid as anybody else's, and I thank you for sharing it. |
