'American Pie 2' continues to tell the story of a group of friends constantly obsessing over crazy college parties and sex. I actually have not seen American Pie, but it is one I'm looking forward to now. Stifler, Jim, Oz and Finch have all returned for the sequel, but I didnt find it as funny as most people have told me it really was. Most of the jokes in the film are centered around disgusting material, such as sex jokes, gay cracks and constant harassment from none other then Stifler himself. The film was acceptable though, it tells a story of friendship and love, but in a funny way. Most people won't be able to accept the insanely sex centered plot and humor, but it's a fun film which never bores and it is definitely entertaining.
After their first year at college, the guys reunite for another summer of fun. Jim continues his quest for sexual independence by seeking the help of his old prom date, Michele, after an unexpected call from Nadia who plans to visit Jim. Meanwhile, Kev and Vicky find themselves in an awkward situation after having broken up for a year. Oz must deal with a long distance relationship when Heather heads off to France to study abroad. Old feuds die hard as the ever-so-horny Stifler harbors his hatred toward Finch, who is practicing the Hindu practice of Tantra.
Jason Biggs got his name pretty well known after the release of American Pie, since he was one of the only characters in the film we could approach as "normal". Jim Levenstein was in love with a band geek in the first film, as Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan) makes her return in 'American Pie 2', we find their relationship is still a little uneven. I kind of like Jason Biggs, some of the situations himself or even Stifler get him into are extremely messed up and usually are never fun. In one scenario, Stifler gives Jim lube and a porn video, the lube is actually glue. So Jim ends up glueing his hand to both his crotch and the porn video, this is a hospital visit he will never forget. Alyson Hannigan plays a strange role as Michelle, a ditz who basically lives at band camp. They still have feelings for each other, but Jim really needs sexual practice before Nadia makes her introduction at the party. Michelle teaches Jim the way of sex, how to do this or that, but this brings them closer to hooking up rather then him closer to having sex with Nadia. Alyson picks most of her roles around comedy films, but really messed up when she agreed to play in Date Movie, so I was happy to see her in an earlier and funnier role.
When one things of an American Pie film, Stifler automatically jumps to our heads, Stifler is a legend in both the series and film characters. Played by Sean William Scott, Stifler is a ladies man and an a**hole, which explains why he gets so many girls. Instead of settling down with one girl and trying to spend some time with them, he goes right for sex, but wow he is a funny guy. He torments all his friends with jokes meant to injure the soul. Sean William Scott knows how to handle this role, look at the Rundown or even Dukes of Hazzard to see more of his tormenting and constant humor trail. One character I really want to point out is Sherman, or mostly known as the Sherminator. Played by Chris Owen, he speaks like the Terminator, using robot type voices and grammar, he is extremely funny, but I agree with the girls in saying that he is a total geek.
There has been one direct sequel to American Pie, and this is called American Wedding which shows Jim and Michelle's wedding. After American Wedding, all we can be followed by is a series of direct to DVD sequels starring Stiflers brother in band camp and a film about running a mile naked. I don't plan on seeing these films, just because I really dont think they could stand up and be as good as any real American Pie movie. There are some jokes and situations where the audience may be grossed out, and as a male I found these moments to be the funniest. The group meets an apparent group of lesbians, in which is the funniest scene in the entire film. These moments arent rare though in this movie and for anyone willing to get out a couple guilty laughs this is sure to entertain. This is a comedy and I will say that the ending of the movie is extremely predictable, but whatever.
'American Pie 2' doesnt stand up to the best comedies out there, but it is entertaining. Check out the first one, I will soon.
