Movie Review by T
April 27th, 2007

Two hours of my life I'd like back.

Dear Stephen Spielberg:
Stop. Please, just stop. This movie had the potential to be really, really good and you had to go and screw it up by pumping it so full of sugary glurge that I could feel my pancreas begin to fail as I sat in the theater. The terror and loneliness and confusion of the main character is completely drowned in saccharine. The sympathy I expected to feel never got a chance to grow, because instead of being a search for a soul story, it became Haley Joe Does Cute Again. And Jude Law as a two-timing gigolo? WHO KNEW?! Oh yeah, his exes. And everyone who's ever walked by a National Inquirer sitting in the grocery store checkout bins. Don't even get me started on the ending that wasn't.

I love the original story. The movie didn't live up. It fell flat even for entertainment value, because I was alternately gagging and eyerolling through most of the movie.

If you haven't seen this movie yet and are looking for a good robot movie that brings sympathy for the silicone-with-a-soul, go see I, Robot.

OK, I liked this movie. I didn't love it, as it is too long and just too sad. But I can understand the theme of what it was trying to get at. Think about all the people who want artificial insemination because they HAVE TO HAVE kids. It's distressing.
