A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001)

Not Kubrick
A confused and uneven film that is not what Stanley Kubrick intended.
Instead, it becomes typical Spielberg, happy ending and all.
There are some great aspects to this film, the Kubrickian hints that are not followed through with.
Ultimately we get a sloppy attempt by Spielberg to up his game as an homage to Kubrick, but that is not Spielberg's terrain and he knows it (I hope).
This film could have been great, but is falls way short.

I'm not sure this movie is typical Spielberg has Jessica Film Junkie would suggest. Her complaints are ones that I've heard before. But given the right perspective I think one could see this movie as something brilliant.
The film is neither a classic Kubrick film or Spielberg film. It is an interesting amalgam of the differents styles of both directors. There are some hugs ideas and leaps the film attempts to make that do not become obvious in the first or even second viewing.
One must not take into the viewing of this film as a Kubrick film or Spielberg. |

I think this movie is in the same vain. It works, but you have to let go of alot things (like expectations of seeing a Spielberg or Kubrick film) to view it and understand it in it's proper context.
