Freeman + Hackman = Masterpiece!

Favorite movie quote for : Under Suspicion

Capt. Victor Benezet: Go home. Put on a funny hat. Do whatever it is morons do.

Wow, I really was not expecting this film to be this good. I watched this film years ago and did not remember anything about it. I was looking through my DVDs and saw it (I have a large collection and usually cant remember more then about 70% of what I have) so I put it in and really enjoyed it.

The film is mainly shot in a police station as Hackman is the number one suspect for 2 rape/murders of some young girls. Freeman is the Captain that believes that Hackman is guilty and Monica Bellucci who is probably the finest woman on this world is Hackman's wife.

The dialogue, mannerisms and expressions of Hackman and Freeman make this movie what it is. This film should be up there with the best of the best when it comes to actors making a conversation seem as if its going on in front of you. I compare the whole film to the Deniro & Pacino conversation in Heat or the Hopper and Walken conversation from True Romance. They really have a chemistry.

This film was a box office MEGA disaster.....which is really shocking to me. I cant imagine what people did not like about it. It has no action or comedy but the suspense of it....trying to figure out if he is guilty or not will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. Really there is no boring parts in the film and no drag spots.

This was a remake of a 1980 film called Garde ŕ vue which I have not seen but I would imagine that this one is better. It was really great to see Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman in something else together since Unforgiven. This time the roles are sort of reversed as Freeman is the law (although he is not the violent lawman that Hackman portrayed as Little Bill Daggett) and Hackman is the criminal.........or is he? You will have to watch to find out.

Also I am having a hard time figuring out how to describe a technique that the director used to take the audience into each back story. As Hackman is questioned about various parts of the crime, the audience is then shown the scene but Freeman as the police captain is there with him and talks to him as if the scene then kicks into real time. Very unique and really helps get you into the crime!

Want to know how sad America is? We get Cameron Diaz. Europe has Monica Bellucci. It's just not fair.

I think this actually the first time I saw either her or Thomas Jane.

I first noticed Monica in The Matrix sequel and I would take her on her worst day over Cameron Diaz.
