Movie Review by Zara
January 25th, 2007

The Sixth What?

The sophomore excursion by director M. Night Shyamalan, this movie was largely disrespected when it was released. People claimed that it didn't pack the punch that THE SIXTH SENSE did. I hate that the two get compared at all, since they are two entirely different movies.

Sure, they're directed with the same hand, meant to stimulate that thriller sensor in the back of your brain, but UNBREAKABLE focuses far more on the human weaknesses rather than anything super-human. Sure, Willis' character possesses an unusual amount of physical strength, but that's not the point. He has to learn to develop a will of steel to get him through the mission that life has set out for him.

What do you do when you want people to view you in a light that you're invisible? When you've spent your entire life with a spotlight upon you for being different and wish that you could be normal like everyone else? Then, when you find someone who is just as unique as you and yet gets away with being that one thing you crave most, normalcy, and yet is resistent to admitting the power that he possesses...

I'm meandering.

Point is, this is the movie that remains my favorite from M Night. Quiet, unassuming and poignant. Brilliant filmmaking.
