A Great and Emotional Story
Remember The Titans is a disney movie directed by Boaz Yakin. With the film mainly dealing with the football team and its players, the film focuses a lot of racial tension. Taking place back in the 70's, the blacks and whites were dealing with each other in the joining of schools. At the beginning of the movie we get kind of an introduction to whats going on, then we learn about how the two different groups of people come together. A story of love, friendship and dreams make a great film in which goes into my list for top sports movies.
As the schools begin integrating together, in Virginia it is currently happening. When the lead coach of the Titans, Bill Yoast gets fired from his job as head coach, a black man by the name of Herman Boone takes over. The people of the town dont agree because of the color of his skin, but he just keeps doing his job, not minding them. As he begins his football team, he hires Yoast back as his Defensive Coordinator, then the games begin. While the team is at a training camp, the coaches bring the two races together, explaining that they must know each other to win games. When they come together, the story moves on as they go to state championships, and put away their differences.
Denzel Washington is playing a rough role here. Although Herman Boone is a strong chracter in which I really liked, Denzel hits it perfectly. He shows passion for the role along with really wanting to get this character right on the screen. Will Patton also did an amazing job as Yoast, another tough character to play.
The film is unlike any other sports movie I have ever seen. I do declare Friday Night Lights as the greatest sports movie I have ever seen, but this comes in second. First of all the script is great, there are actually a few lines in which I loved. The directing was also done nicely, really sporting everything right and never going over the top. The film shows many different elements of people, how they can change and how quickly they can change. The film also supports some very spiritual messages besides just never give up.
Bottom Line: Memorable
