Movie Review by Jessica Film Junkie
March 10th, 2007

The Marquis de Sade, all sex and glory

The highly sexualized story of the highly sexualized Marquis de Sade.

He wrote naughty stories that entertained the masses, even when he was arrested and scorned, he found a way to get his stories out. He cried out for pleasure to have a voice and gave his readers an escape from the world that was crashing down on them

Geoffrey Rush gives a great performance as the Marquis, he is sometimes over-the-top but it suits the character, he must be the embodiment of sex and though he is not the not physically attractive man in the world, he knows just what to say.

Kate Winslet plays a washerwoman caught up in helping the stories reach the masses. She is as good as ever in a role of a woman sinking into the delight of his words.

Good movie, great history.
