Movie Review by Zara
March 14th, 2007

It's about... a storm

This movie really doesn't have this huge story behind it. Based on real life events of a fishing boat that went too far out in hopes of getting a huge catch and finally being able to make some good money, then getting caught in one of the largest storms on record for that area, there isn't a huge amount going on other than that.

The thing is, it really doesn't need much else. You'd think that it would be boring because there's no great conflict and from the beginning you understand that these guys are going to be lost at sea. Yet there's still an excellent amount of tension and some of the most amazing scenes of a storm that I've ever seen.

The actors are all solid, and while they depend on the big name draws of Clooney and Wahlberg, John C Riley and William Fichtner are great and lesser known additions.

The side story is that these guys left behind women, one of which apparently still pines for her man to this day. Diane Lane fills in the role of the woman who just KNEW something was wrong and while she's always a pleasure to look at, there really isn't much for her to do. She's fine and all, but merely a blip on the radar that is centered around some incredible effects.

Even with not much happening, I still value this as being one of my favorite action movies made so far.
