Movie Review by Melanie
June 3rd, 2007

A little musical with your Shakespeare?

I was a little apprehensive of this movie because it was trying to do something very different. It is Shakespeare but with much of the dialogue cut and with traditional musical numbers inserted. It has the feel of a 40s movie in both the style of filming as well as the wardrobe. I did end up loving the movie and I think I'm going to buy this one. Kenneth Branagh is just brilliant as usual and very sexy in this role. All the actors do their own singing and dancing. They even do some long cuts just like in old musicals with the 20 second scenes. No cutting every 5 seconds like they do in current movies! I just really enjoyed the very first dance number that they managed to make look smooth and normal. Great for lovers of musicals and Shakespeare. Enjoy!
