Movie Review by Emily
February 8th, 2007

Based on the AMAZING book by Nick Hornby, this movie about a man named Rob Gordon (John Cusack), who owns an AWESOME record shop, staffed by two complete rock snobs who have no life, Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black), suddenly has everything torn from him, including his sanity when his girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjele) leaves him. Suddenly, Rob is thrown in to a re-hashing of the past, working his way through his 5 most painful breakups ever, trying to figure what is wrong with his life. In all, it becomes a hilarious mix up of feelings, temporary insanity, and misunderstandings.

Could the acting in this movie be any better? I don't think so. John Cusack, as always, is amazing. Especially when he breaks down, I must say, that is John Cusack at his best. Todd Louiso was HILARIOUS as a soft spoken, mild mannered, but clearly knows his sh*t rock lover. Jack Black, as always, was the funnniest, playing only the comic relief, in his usual over eccentric role as a highly anobbish rock lover, who loves to annoy people, and harass them for their bad taste, or lack of knowledge. Iben Hjele played opposite John Cusack incredibly well, and made everything that he was fighting for believable. The other supporting roles, prtrayed by Joan Cusack, Lili Taylor, Katherine Zeta Jones, Tim Robbins, and Lisa Bonet, were amazing as well, and they really helped to shape the movie to the wonderful classic that it is. If you have not seen this movie, you need to do to. It is on my list of the four movies that you need to see to succeed at life, so go out and rent or buy yourself a copy!
