Movie Review by JR
January 23rd, 2007

Anybody who is any sort of obsessive music, comic or movie fan should be able to completely feel at home with the movie High Fidelity. Based on the novel by Nick Hornby, with a few tweaks (like its location, from London to Chicago) to make it more friendly to an international (nee American) audience, it is the ultimate example to the non-obsessive collector, as too what it is like to be one...with a light chick flick undertone of heartbreak, so your non-obessive other half can relate as well.

High Fidelity is the story of Rob (John Cusack) who owns a music collectors haven called Championship Vinyl, where he employs Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black). Rob has just split up with his girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjelje) and decides to recount his top five heartbreaks to you, the viewer, in a series of flashbacks, all the while trying to cope with his latest break, by revisiting those who broke his heart.

This film also stars Catherine Zeta Jones, Tim Robbins, Lisa Bonet and Joan Cusack, and is a great film about heartbreak and nerdiness. Laugh out loud at time and full of feeling at other, this film, for me, hit every single mark. Top Points!!

"Should I bolt every time I get that feeling in my gut when I meet someone new? Well, I've been listening to my gut since I was 14 years old, and frankly speaking, I've come to the conclusion that my guts have sh*t for brains."

Oh, and don't forget to read the book. There's a very good reason why this was such a good movie.

Agreed! I was glad to see John Cusack taking charge of this both from a production and cast POV, especially as the Rob character written all over him. I don't believe it is hard to adapt a book well, the difficult part is resisting temptation to make a blockbuster!!
