My heart grew 3 sizes that day...
Narrator: The Who's young and old would sit down to a Feast, and they will feast, and they will feast.
The Grinch: And they'll feast, feast, feast, feast. They'll eat their Who-Pudding and rare Who-Roast Beast. But there's something I just cannot stand in least... Oh no. I'M SPEAKING IN RHYME!
I have to admit that I'm one of those saps that loves the rhyming in ANY Dr.Suess books, so of course the rhyming is my favorite in this movie as well.
Nearing the end of the year many people start to reflect on everything that has happened in the year and all the things they hope for in the upcoming year. I've been thinking a lot about Christmas lately. Not because I'm waiting for some cool present under the tree or because I like to shop. I've been thinking about how I feel during the holiday season and as I was reading the memorable quotes for this movie, I started to wonder why I'm never sad during this time of year. I'd say, probably HALF of the people I know are the Bah Humbug Grinch type of people during this festive season. I never understood how anyone could be so unhappy at such a happy time. Even now, I have family members that have passed away near Christmas time and I've had broke Christmas' (this year included), but as long as I have my family and a warm fire and the smell of my 'famous' ham baking in the oven...well...that's all I really care about. That and singing Christmas carols.
Anyway, this story has always been one of my favorites, because it really depicts the attitude of lots of people during this time of year in the Grinch. I suppose I haven't always been the Cindy Lou Who, because when you're a kid the presents matter more, but I've known for a very long time that I LOVE Christmas, regardless of gifts or cold weather. I think that if half of the Grinches in the world could be touched the way the Grinch in this story is, Christmas would just be that much better, yannow?
Okay, I'm a sap. Yes, I wish for Peace on Earth, at least for the holiday season.
I really enjoyed Jim Carrey as the Grinch. I think it takes someone so over-the-top to pull off the Grinch and Carrey is the perfect candidate, in my opinion. I loved the make-up and costumes, because they stayed so true to the way we know the whos and the Grinch to look. My favorite part is probably when the Narrator sings the Grinch song. His voice is just perfect and it's just a funny song.
For many reasons, I love this flick, so if you haven't seen it (and especially if you're a Grinch during this holiday season) rent it and watch it and it just might bring a smile to that sour puss. :)

You know, I choke up every time that I watch the cartoon, but this movie left me bored, gotta agree with Paul.
They do still have some of the sets from the movie on the back lot tour at Universal Studios though, if you're interested. |
