Movie Review by Jessica Film Junkie

Crowe's Great Tiny Dancer

A fictionalized account of Cameron Crowe's experiences as a teen reporter for Rolling Stone hanging out with various bands, most notably Led Zeppelin.

The fictional Stillwater are a perfect 70's band, all talent and addiction, desire for fame, but not wanting to sell out, before totally selling out.

Patrick Fugit is great as the awkward music fan who loves the life and loves being everyone's pal, but has to stay true to his mission: to write the truth.

This movie is all about Kate Hudson as Penny Lane, the ultimate groupie. She is a mystery, but we love her and/or want to be her. Hudson has not lived up to this early potential since.

This movie is lovely in its devotion to the 70's, but it doesn't pull its punches. Billy Crudup encompasses all the embarassment and magnificence of a real star, selling out his friends in the name of saving face. But his final appeal to the young reporter makes us realize that though these people are elevated to God-like status, they are just people, flawed and imperfect.

"Hold me closer tiny dancer"
