Movie Review by Richard
August 3rd, 2007

Welcome To Paradise

The first installment of Friday gave us Chris Tucker, early in his illustrious career with the taglines "You got knocked the f*ck out!" and "And you know this, man". Sadly, Next Friday did no such thing. This movie follows Craig (Ice Cube) as he stays with his uncle, who won the lottery, I think, in the suburbs.

It follows a string of dumb luck incidents, much like the original, but tries to keep the same humor and candor, but without the on screen chemistry. Mike Epps gets his lips sucked into a vacuum cleaner he was blowing "smoke" into to cover the smell, and Ice Cube sets up and delivers the police unto his thug Latino neighbors.

There were some funny spots in this movie, but it just was pretty dull throughout. John Witherspoon does his usual funny stuff, and really was the best part of the movie. If they make another one, it should just be called "Another Friday: We follow Craig's dad around and get stoned". That would probably be better than this one.

I expect someone else, who has watched this movie, will think of funny scenes I cannot recall. Hey, it's all good. If someone had the DVD and you are in the need to waste a couple of hours, borrow it. I wouldn't waste money buying this, but it will take you away in your mind for a little while. That can be good on a stressful day, I guess.
