Art

I was checking Imdb.com's message board for this movie and I was amazed by the misconception of what this movie is. Sure it's a very long movie, but it's not unfocused. The Thin Red Line takes several soldiers from very different walks of life and shows their reaction to war.

This isn't a plot driven movie by any means. The entire story is the characters. It's takes a lot patience, but to me it's completely worth it. The interaction between Sean Penn and James Caviezel can rival just about any pairing I've ever seen.

The Thin Red Line is long, poetic and fiercely poignant. Don't turn on The Thin Red Line for action or to see epic war scenes. This is a film for who truly love the art form.

It's like listening to Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond. It might not be a 4 minute radio song, but when you give it the time it immerses you in its beauty. It's a true piece of art. Just like this film.

Yeah, I've never seen him in anything since that I liked him near as much as in this movie.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I like Badlands, The New World, and Days of Heaven more than this movie. Days of Heaven may be Malick's best film, in my view, but this is a very unconventional war movie, and I appreciated the approach he took.
