Movie Review by Thom
April 17th, 2008

Rudolf Should've Shot Himself

Though I thought that I'd wiped clean my memory of this vapor-creating dog turd, I recognized that bad reviews are more fun to write than good ones. I'm reminded of Reindeer Games every time I think of plot twists and want a good example of what not to do. Ever.

So, I was hanging out at a friend's pad when we decided to go see a movie one fine day back in the double "0". Reindeer Games? Director John Frankenheimer coming off the kick-ass Ronin. I liked Ben Affleck ever since Chasing Amy, Gary Sinise since Forest Gump and The Stand, and Charlize Theron ever since Devil's Advocate. It seemed to be a good bet.

This is why I don't bet.

First off, I think that Reindeer Games simultaneously set the record for most plot twists in a single movie as well as the only movie that made each twist more ridiculous than that which preceeded it. It really boils down to "yes, I knew that, but I also knew that you knew that I knew that you knew that I knew that you knew that I knew that you knew that I knew that you knew that I knew that he was not who he said he was so I knew that you would do this once you found out about that and that would play right into my hands! MUHAHAHAHAHA!"

It's convoluted, unbelievable, and retarded; you simply can't plan that many moves ahead when involving the great unknown - people. You think that I'm kidding and I'm not; Reindeer Games has at least seven twists all about as nonsensical as if, at the end of Star Wars upon blowing up the Death Star together, Luke had shot Han and Leia in the head. Yes, you could say that I never saw that coming, but it doesn't make any sense; a twist is supposed to be a revelation that makes the story come together, not kick it apart. Imagine that Boromir shows up at the end of Return of the King and tackles Golem into the lava - that would have made more sense and been more believable than anything in Reindeer Games.

Aside from that, everybody mailed it in. Any list of worst movies ever must give due consideration to Reindeer Games.

I gave it a half star more for Charlize's t*ts. Only because they're only worth that much.

I would never watch a movie for anyone's t*ts (unless we are talking about actual touching and further fun activities).
