Movie Review by The Alpha Craig
November 11th, 2007

I believe you have me thtapler.

This movie has far too many great lines to quote, I would end up spending the whole review firing off ones like "Don't you people get it? I have people skills." Or "Looks like someone's got a case of the Mondays." Or "What's happening Peter...yeah. I'm not sure if you know this, but we are putting cover letters on all of our TPS reports now so if you could go ahead and make sure you do that, that'd be great." Or "Naghaa, Nagheena not gonna work here anymore." Okay I digress; my point is that this is a damn funny movie.

Coworkers Peter Gibbons, Michael Bolton and Samir Nagheenanajar all worked at a soul crushing company called Initech. After being stressed out by work, his girlfriend and two efficiency experts brought in to Initech called the Bobs, Peter underwent hypnotherapy. The therapist placed the suggestion of letting go of the stress into Peters mind moments before dying of a heart attack. Peter woke up with a new sense of calm and decided to stop taking crap from everybody. He, Michael and Samir launched a plan to get back at Initech that ended up blowing up in theirs faces, all in an attempt to escape the "Office Space."

This movie is just one great sound byte after another. It is a decent story that tips its hat to Superman 3 (which had a similar plan) and I am glad they did that. It is so rare to see movies acknowledge that they have been influenced by other movies. What makes this movie work best, to me, is not only the jokes but that fact that anybody who has had a job requiring you to sit at a cubicle can relate to pretty much all of this movie.

Ron Livingston (MUSIC WITHIN) as Peter Gibbons is great after the hypnosis. He is free in all of the ways he wish we could be. Jennifer Aniston (HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU) as Joanna seemed like that cool, somewhat spacey, girl you always wondered what it would be like to date. I am not a huge Aniston fan, but for some reason she looked so good in this movie to me I really wasn't paying full attention to her performance. Gary Cole (BREACH) as Bill Lumbergh was great. He reminded me of an old boss we all used to verbally thrash every chance we got. You really can't go wrong with Diedrich Bader (BALLS OF FURY) as Lawrence. I have yet to see him in an unfunny role. It was neat to see John C. McGinley (WILD HOGS) as Bob Slydell. He is another guy who has never really been in a bad role (even though most of them are the same character type *cough*Dr.Cox*cough*.) This was just a good time with a lot of laugh and not much substance. It was pop rocks, loud, fun, sweet and empty.
