Easy Mummy
Favorite Movie Quote: "Death is just the beginning"
With its stale acting and uninspired contrivances, the Mummy should never rate higher than a guilty pleasure, though its playful banter at least makes it fun to watch.
Mummy pits nomadic adventurer Rick O'Connell (Brenden Fraser still failing to reach the career promised in School Ties) along with bookworm Evie (Rachel Weisz) and her sticky-fingered brother Jonathan (John Hannah) against the rampaging, adulterous mummy Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo). Also on the hunt to oppose Imhotep is Ardeth Bay (Oded Fehr) and his band of bored zanies that have been waiting around for 3000 years to prevent/fight the mummy.
The plot isn't really consistent if you spend any time following it closely; characters change objectives without reason, know things that they sometimes shouldn't, and behave in a manner more in keeping with those that should be on suicide watch. Most of the time, the plot won't concern you because a large action sequence jumps up to shove the characters in the direction they need to be going; there aren't any surprises that really matter, no sacrifices that have any meaning.
With its lack of depth and rock 'em sock 'em pace, the Mummy is the epitome of the summer blockbuster. But while I would never call the Mummy a good movie, it is a fun movie, and sometimes that's enough.

| I really liked The Mummy and probably enjoyed the second installment even more......I guess its all in how you approach it...I went into it knowing that it was just suppose to be a "fun" movie...and that I shouldnt expect a ground breaking plot or character dialogue. |
