The Hurricane (1999)

Wonderful performance highlights this true story.
I'll never forget the first time I saw this movie. I was working as a projectionist and decided to actually spend the time to watch this film because I was bored.
Well to my happy surprise "The Hurricane" exceeded my expectations. The film stars Denzel Washington in another fantastic performance has Rubin "Hurricane" Carter a boxer who is wrongly sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit.
If that was all there was to the film Washingtons performance would have been just ok, but the movie then decides to contrasts Rubin's experience with that of young man named Lesra who is a young black teenager who is being taken care of by a group of 70's Canadian Commune hippies.
Lesra who picks up a book the Rubin wrote while he was in prison about his experiences is inspired to talk to Rubin and find out more about him and his case.
From there the movie probably takes some typical Hollywood turns, but the performances are very good. There are also some liberties taken with some of the facts, but not enough to be major.
The film is a moving piece of work with wonderful acting all around.
