I am nervous to even try to write a review on this
Favorite Movie Quote: "Hey. There's no such place. It's just a fairytale these guys told you to keep you quiet. Just thought you should know, f*ggot."
I'm so feeling the way Zara reviewed this film. This film is as perfect as a film can get. I am nervous even trying to find the right words to describe the beauty of this film. Its an emotional film not only because each character is developed so well but the level of talent involved in this film is just extraordinary.
Tom Hanks impresses the sh*t out of me, I mean Forrest Gump set Hanks off to a new level of stardom....but this is one of those films that I will always remember showing off his talent at maximum level. David Morse who also starred in another Stephen King adaptation being The Langoliers......is one of my favorite non-famous actors out there. I love him in everything he does and he plays his characters well. James Cromwell is another actor that I respect with all of my movie heart....he always brings a fresh and stern character to the mix. Sam Rockwell was just amazing in this, he gets a good bit of wacky roles.....try watching Box of Moon Light for another great performance by him. Then the late Michael Jeter who died of aids in 2003 was wonderful as well.
You could talk about the cast for ages and you have to mention Michael Clarke Duncan who was sh*tted out of a rightfully deserved Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Duncan proved that he was more then just the intimidating black man and showed that he had the heart and talent that it took to pull off this VERY difficult character that he portrayed.
I think the ending of this film is probably one of the saddest endings in film history.....it brings the tears no matter how many times I see it.....it is purely perfect from the lighting, the slow motion camera, to the perfect score, to the actors perfect performances of watching this servant of Christ get wrongfully executed.
Doug Hutchison who I am not familiar with other then this film was the perfect villain, he NAILED this part you couldn't imagine anyone else being that person. I don't know who cast this film but they should have got a freaking award themselves.
Its funny that Stephen King's BEST films are not horror movies. This and another close to perfect film being The Shawshank Redemption where actually written together and then once they turned into the film Frank Darabont directed both and most recently directed another King film being The Mist.
I really want to add another quote from this one...because half the film is memorable lines.....but here is another favorite of mine:
Toot-Toot: [gleefully] Yeah! I want a fried chicken dinner with gravy on the taters, I want to sh*t in your hat, and I got to have Mae West sit on my face, because I am one horny motherf*cker!
