The best Flick in all of MatchFlick
And no, I'm not referring to this being the best movie. I'm referring to the fact that Reese Witherspoon portrays the phenomenal character of Tracy Flick, a type-A personality who everyone went to school with one of. That girl who went above and beyond to try to win over people but just didn't have the personality that kids could relate to.
The fact that she ends up sleeping with one of the teachers at the school is oddly funny enough. The fact that Matthew Broderick's character despises her sucking up (as a teacher himself) and wants to see someone other than her win the election for senior class president is even better. And him imagining her screwing his friend and fellow teacher just takes the cake.
There's more to this movie than just that, however. From the lousy marriage Broderick is in, trying to get his wife pregnant, to the ill-fated attempted at having an affair with his friend's wife, to Chris Klein playing yet another idiot football player and forcing us to have to endure his attempts to break out of typecasting ever since, there's something in this movie for the whole family.
Reese will remain one of my favorite mainstream actresses because of doing movies like this. Though she's abandoned these roles for ones that appeal to the public more, it was in these years that she proved just how powerful of a player she is. Try to imagine any other actress playing Tracy Flick and you'll come up with a blank.
Oh, and the positive spin on lesbianism? Great move as well.
