Movie Review by Zara
March 14th, 2007

It took forever

People were up in arms about the concept of this movie, protesting outside Disney when they found out that Miramax, a division of Disney, was planning on releasing a movie that was supposedly blasphemous.

I love it when people protest before they've even seen something. I mean, sure, they had plenty of reason to protest what was going on in this movie. Mainly because it's extremely well written and precise about what goes on within the Catholic religion and all of the bullsh*t associated with it. People really do need to protest when the truth is being spoken.

However, the movie also gets offtrack trying to maintain Smith's signature gross out style. There are some really great speeches in here which bring to light a great deal of the hypocrisies of religion, but when you throw in a demonic looking Jason Lee looking like a used car salesman and manage to work in a talking pile of sh*t, well... people stop noticing the smart stuff as much.

This was a great concept and I maintain that it's one of the smarter scripts that Smith's written. But I can't wholeheartedly proclaim it a 5 star affair. Plus it reminds me that it was the beginning of the end in my full fledged appreciation of Smith.

I thought that this was a great blend of humor and religion. Not having a religious bone in my body, I love it when movies like this are made. Poking fun while being semi-serious at the same time.

Kevin Smith is probably one of the only directors that can make Matt Damon look like he can actually act.
