Movie Review by Zara
January 8th, 2008

Intelligent drama with one of the best looking all African American casts I've seen in a long time. Telling the very tried and true tale of a group of college buddies who have grown up and are facing the realities of adulthood when one of the sets of friends is about to get married and some unwanted skeletons fall out of the closet, clogging up the works.

The major pluses is that the lead female characters are treated with respect, even if there are a couple of male characters who don't seem to know how to handle them. You end up even liking the b*tchy shrew, although I had trouble with how forgiving some of these women were. I suppose that's what made them un-stereotypical, that they were strong enough to buck what was expected them and follow their hearts, but I still would have been a little more pissed about what some of the stupid males did.

Couple of important notes: this is again a stellar turn by Terrence Howard, an actor who shines even in the dingiest projects. He is the most "real" male of the group, even if he is the most misogynistic. Sanaa Lathan continues her reign as my favorite black actress of current years, being sensitive, strong, beautiful and believable all at the same time. There is a tenderness in her eyes and a tentative forcefulness of her voice that is always disarming.

And Nia Long in that purple teddy? Seriously... can I get a DAYYYYYYUM, GIRL! All without nudity, that woman busted through some major hotness levels in that brief scene. Holy hell of a honey.
