Movie Review by Zara
March 10th, 2007

Cute, cute, cute

Sometimes movies aren't meant to solve world friction. They aren't meant to have hidden meanings and political agendas. Sometimes they are just meant to be entertaining. This is one of these movies.

I didn't think that I wanted to watch this movie because it came out around the time that I was absolutely sick of Alicia Silverstone and didn't really want to see her be able to hook up with Brendan Fraser. However, the two are surprisingly well matched here. His sense of sweet innocence and her lame attempt at being the hard girl end up working really well as a pairing.

My favorite scenes, however, include those with Christoper Walken and Sissy Spacek as Fraser's parents still trapped under ground thinking that the world perished at the hands of a nuclear attack. Spacek as the chipper mom who wants her son to bring back alcohol for her is perfect here, as is Walken as the father who is afraid of what the outside world might bring.

The goings on around the son of the former owner of the building that was put on top of the family's rubble is also a bright spot in the film.

Again, this isn't a movie that is meant to really say or do anything, it's just fun to watch and a great diversion on a slow afternoon.
