TARZAN'S the man
My little nephew's kill me. They really do. Kyle's 8. Marky's 6. Blond and blue-eyed. Cute and clever. What more can I say?? (I ain't biased)
Once a month the 3 of us guys get together at my place for Movie Night. It's a wonderful way for us all to enjoy each other's company. We all sit on the carpet propped up with pillows in front of the big-screen TV set watching new(and old) flicks while digging with greasy fingers into our bowls of buttered popcorn, chomping on strawberry flavored twizzlers, munching on mouthfuls of Smarties, and chugging down vast amounts of Root Beer. Shlurp. Shlurp. Talk about Burp-City to the max!
To get this festive evening underway we first all truck on down to the video store where each of us makes his' own movie selection. The rules here are that no one is allowed to interfere with or veto anyone else's selection. As you can imagine with an 8 and a 6 year old making a movie selection the temptation for me to nix their choices can be over-whelming sometimes. And,of course, the same goes for their opinions of some of my choices.
Tonight my choice was 'TRON'. I got no argument there. Kyle's pick was 'THE IRON GIANT'. No one beefed about that. But when little Marky picked 'TARZAN' (which I hadn't seen) I had the urge to break our rule and try to coax him to choose something like 'BUDDY'. I don't know why I felt so opposed to watching this film. I guess it just struck me as another piece of Disney rot.
Anyway,to make a long story short.....I truly enjoyed TARZAN. From the dramatic beginning,to the Phil Collin's songs,to the happy ending I sure was glad that Marky was a young man with good taste in movies.
The animation in this film was truly excellent. And what totally pleased me was that Tarzan turned out to be a really likable guy. Sure he had his faults, but loyalty to his family was #1 priority with him. He also had real integrity. Yet,he could be kind and gentle, too. What a relief this all was for me. I was expecting Tarzan to be a real arsehole,or something like that.
You could tell right from the start of Tarzan that some real thought had been put into the story here. It wasn't all flash-animation. There are some scenes in Tarzan that are real gems,like......When Tarzan and Jane meet.......When Tarzan battles the tiger......And,especially when Tarzan finds out about his real parents. This scene was emotionally charged to the max!
Do I recommend Tarzan? Highly. It's superb entertainment for all ages. But,hey, don't take my word for it. Ask Marky,he knows his stuff!
