Movie Review by haley
June 21st, 2007

if only she had caught the train...

two quick pieces of information: i really don't like Ms. Paltrow and i generally do not like modern "chick flicks".

that said... this was still a pretty darn entertaining movie. perhaps it is because i too feel schitzophrenic (sp?) most of the time... but for whatever reason, this movie "spoke" to me...

the basic premise is that Gwennie gets "sacked" from her big wig PR job. she heads over the the "tube" to take the train home and the difference of just a split second, one Gwen misses the train and one Gwen makes the train.

Confused yet? Good. Because the entire movie is set up as a contrast between Gwen1 who made the train, got home early, caught her beau in bed with another woman, and decided to leave him and Gwen2 who missed the train, got mugged on her way home, didn't get home early, missed the mistress, and spent the next several months of her life continuing to live with the unfaithful and whiny boyfriend.

the newly single Gwen starts her own PR company, meets a funny and sweet new man, cuts her hair, and generally does well for herself. the sad Gwen works as a waitress and a sandwich delivery girl while her whiny boyfriend stays at home, plays with his mistress, and doesn't work. She even finds out she is pregnant.

The movie makes you believe that she would have been better off having made the train on that fateful afternoon. But what you don't know is that the independent Gwen will be hit by a car and will die before she ever really makes anything more of herself. And the Sad Gwen will EVENTUALLY figure out her boyfriend is no good and will begin a new life...

What is the moral of this story? probably just that you shouldn't spend you life wondering "why me?" or "what if....?" because everything happens for a reason...

overall: great show, good acting, interesting plot... so worth the time....

I adore this film, I was going to re-watch it at some point and do my own review...but...well it looks like I missed that train.

'Tube' hehe heh, yes it is called the Tube. You get on a Tube train. For true.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this film as I usually steer well clear of Paltrow.

I liked this movie a lot as well. Any movie that makes you think afterwards is a good movie. I often wonder how different my life would have been if on that fateful night that I watched this film I had instead watched 'Exit to Eden' instead...
