Michael Douglas's perfect character....

Favorite Movie Quote: "Hey Steven, do I keep f*cking your wife in the meantime, or what?"

I have really been liking Michael Douglas lately. His perfect character is the overly rich, powerful, fearless man that he portrays in this, The Game and Wall Street. In fact I cant think of an actor who can play that type of character better then Douglas.

This film is really good, the plot is interesting and the actors do great jobs selling their roles. I usually cant stand Gwyneth Paltrow but strangely I find that Paltrow playing the rich upper class white woman is the perfect role for her as well just as her role in Great Expectations. I like Viggo Mortensen in most things, he did a good job of making you dislike him in the film but I thought out of the three main characters that he was the weakest link.

What kind of kills a better rating for this film is some of the obvious plot holes. The rest of this review may contain some SPOILERS!!!!

So you hire someone to kill your wife, come home thinking that your wife is going to be dead but you realize that the hitman is dead instead. Douglas as smart as he was with EVERY other detail cant recognize his own wife's apartment key? I found that unbelievable. Then to make matters worse the whole time that Emily (Paltrow) is staying with her mother.....Steven (Douglas) never thinks to go get the hide-a-key box that he left for the killer, although it is apparent that he thought enough to hire a cleaning company to come and clean the blood off the kitchen floor.

Then if you hire someone to kill your wife and the hitman has you on a tape stating that you want your wife killed, you get the tape and bring it home. What kind of idiot is going to leave that tapes sight?? Steven puts the tape in a safe (which is a miniature tape like the ones used in small recorders) and then goes and jumps into the shower. Why couldn't he have slid the tape in his pocket and went into the bathroom and broke it in half and flushed it or burned it or anything to get rid of some evidence that could put you away for life. Seems awful sloppy for the mastermind that Douglas was. He thought of everything even mailing those blackmail pictures to himself but then made some errors that really seemed out of character.

The film is good enough to watch more then once and I think anyone will enjoy the film. If nothing else watch it to see Douglas as his perfect role.

It's been awhile since I watched this, but I remember just thinking that, as a rule, you should never try to remake Hitchcock movies.

I could see you saying that since your a big fan of the older flicks....I have never seen Dial M for Murder...but this one was a good movie, not a waste of money at all....had a few opportunities for improvement but overall they did a good job with it.

Dial M for Murder was actually one of the weaker Hitchcock movies, in my opinion. I might rent this sometime. I remember that I saw it, but not much else.

I really liked Unfaithful....and this one is at least as good....Unfaithful was just poor casting.
